Photobiomodulation (Low Light Laser Therapy)

What Is Low Light Laser Therapy?

Low Light Laser Therapy is the medical use of monochromatic light emission from a low intensity laser diode (250 milliwatts or less) or an array of high intensity super luminous diodes (providing total optical power up to the 2000 milliwatt range).

The application of red and near infra-red light is designed to maximise the efficiency and performance of your brain. It delivers near infra-red energy to neurons, which helps to increase spatial awareness and reflex time and balance. The light can penetrate the head and reach the brain, it is absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in mitochondria, it increases blood flow, energy, neuroprotection, reduces inflammation and leads to brain repair and enhances brain optimisation.

Photobiomodulation can treat traumatic (stroke, TBI,Global ischaemia), neurodegenerative (Dementia, Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s) and psychiatric diseases (Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Among Brain Inflammation, cognitive decline, stickiness of thought/ repetitive looping thinking/OCD, numerous conditions are successfully treated with Photobiomodulation, including:

  • Tendonitis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Cervical Spondylosis and Headache
  • Neck and Shoulder Pain
  • Low Back Pain and Sciatica
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Jaw Joint Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Knee and Ankle Arthritis
  • Sports Injuries
  • Gout
  • Cognitive Decline
  • Chronic and Acute Inflammation
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
  • Inflammation of the Prostate
  • Endometriosis
  • Neuropathy
  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Traumatic Brain Injury and Concussion
  • Fatigue Syndrome
  • Depression
  • Cognitive Performance and Brain Health

The light source is placed in contact with the skin allowing the photon energy to penetrate tissue, where it interacts with various intracellular biomolecules resulting in biochemical changes in deep cellular components, such as mitochondria – the “power plants” of the cell.
